Salamanca 1

This place.  What would the word be?  Enchanting? Mysterious?
Ga-Lorious?
There are medallions all around the Plaza of famous Spaniards.   This guy just finished dinner.
I think I will start with the beauty of wandering the streets of Salamanca.  Starting with the above pictured Plaza Mayor.  The city's center .  It is a great people watching spot, and dining spot.
It's a Unesco Heritage Site, so the locals have preserved it well.
There are different centuries side by side.

Addresses and details about the buildings you pass are often printed on the side like this.

Salamanca is a University town so it's  a busy place.   I think this is the school for religion, part of Salamanca's University.
The University of Salamanca.   The 3rd oldest in the world.  There's a story to all of these carvings, but the most well known is the one about the frog on the skull.  If you can find that frog (unaided), you will have  success at the University.
There he is!

As with many if these places, there is an ancient Roman Bridge.

Old walls
And a nod to the Way of St James, the Pilgrimage,  the Camino de Santiago.
There's an old Palace,  now a library, with the shells that are the symbols of the Camino, on the walls.

There are modern walls too.
You just never know what awaits around each corner.
This was a pleasant surprise.  We didn't even know about this town until Tony noticed it at the end of a wine tour itinerary.
