I almost named this post "Bliss", but that describes too many stops.
We have had two long delightful days on the Canary Islands. Both places have been named Santa Cruz, one on the island of La Palma and today on the Island of Tenerife.
It's been so sunny and warm, I was forced to buy some linen dresses - on clearance- because apparently it's winter here. You could tell the locals because they were wearing fleece vests and hoodies. While we of the white skins were getting gloriously pink.
La Palma was a charming place of long alleyways and wooden balconies looking out onto the black sand beaches.
There was the requisite church, Templo de El Salvador. We are close to Morocco, you can really see the Moorish influence here.
They had a Saint, Volcan, which is "volcano", I think. He was a protector of children. This painting would not not give me confidence as a child.
They had a cool replica of one of Columbus' ships in the harbor, the Santa Maria, complete with the little pirate that must be the city's mascot. Maybe he's a "Famous Character" and I have seen too many pirate movies.

You guys are rock stars! This trip is amazing, adventurous and LONG! I would never make it, but you two are embracing every moment, even the tough ones with the sea churning. That one made me sea sick even reading about it! This last set of islands are my favorites so far! Thanks for doing this journal.
It's so cool to get these posts delivered to my email. But to respond it's easier to choose anonymous cause otherwise I have to go to google and log in - gads it should be easier than this. So here I am TANIRAE anonymously. You are seeing such beautiful new places! I can't imagine. We will have to debrief you on your return to pick the best place for a long adventure. And maybe yea to too many pirates on the brain!! Ha ha. They don't usually raise statues to pirates do they?
